There is a huge difference between a whistleblower and a traitor. A whistleblower is not a traitor.

 

If there are structural abuses within a company or government organization, an employee, under strict conditions, may bring sensitive information to the outside. This must entail substantial abuses that are so serious they are harmful to customers, other employees, the organization itself or to citizens.

 

Target of criticism

 

Not all types of abuses are equally serious. It is important that whistleblowers realize that, otherwise their revelations, if about non-existent or extraneous matters, could inflict enormous damage on the organization.

 

A whistleblower must therefore make a serious assessment of the interests involved before going public to avoid the appearance of acting vindictively and becoming a target themselves. In that case, ulterior motives could be attributed to the whistleblower – being one isn't easy.

 

So the release of classified information should be considered a last resort. Whistleblowers should first have attempted in vain all available internal avenues for eliminating structural abuses.

Those who resort to public disclosure without first attempting to reform his or her organization from within is already suspect. Structural abuses can only be called structural and essential if the problem can’t be properly resolved internally.

 

Disclosure is and should be only a last resort.

 

Tyrannical

 

We shouldn’t label just anyone a whistleblower. For example, what about state secrets? Is it permissible to simply make them public?

 

Yes, when it comes to tyrannical regimes, this is invariably permissible. Such regimes represent state organizations that by definition commit crimes to maintain itself in power.

 

No, when it concerns a democratic order - unless a criminal situation prevails. There are other strict requirements, such as the seriousness of the case and the inability to reach a settlement within these state organisations.

 

Confidentiality

 

The state functions through various organs. There are therefore parliamentary committees that can be approached in confidence. People become traitors when they make state secrets public – whether or not through the agency of foreign states or forces. This is certainly the case with Edward Snowden. He worked for the American intelligence service the NSA. He fled his country and made secret state documents on NSA operations public.

 

Asylum

 

Snowden made no attempt to address matters through American Congressional committees, and no longer believed in the democratic institutions of his country.

 

After a brief meandering, he ended up in Moscow intending to travel to Cuba or Venezuela. That didn't happen. Snowden was given asylum by Russian President Vladimir Putin: he is a guest of the Russian security services.

Snowden, doing a service for his Russian bosses, regularly appears in the media with bizarre and unsubstantiated statements. Last year he stated in an interview with Iranian state media that the Islamic State was invented by Israel.

 

Lap Dog

 

The message spread like wildfire: "Edward Snowden knows that IS was founded by Israel!"

 

But Snowden knows nothing of IS. He has no documents on it. In fact, he hasn't worked for the NSA for a while. But he is willing to provide the bloodthirsty enemies of the West and Israel with fabricated facts.

 

AIVD

 

Snowden alleged that the AIVD is the NSA's lapdog. He offered no evidence - but it was all over the Dutch headlines.

 

Self-hatred and distrust of our institutions is clearly deeply-rooted in our politically-correct media. AIVD Director-General Rob Bertholee said recently: "That's really absolute bullshit. I listened in amazement to the incredible insights he seemed to have gained on the Dutch intelligence and security services."

Of the the country's spy agencies, Snowden enraged Dutch intelligence officials by saying the following to a Dutch reporter who asked him: "How does the American Intel world look at the Dutch? "European intelligence agencies have a very good relationship with U.S. intelligence services as a general rule. The Dutch relationship, as sort of the surveillance kings of Europe - are obviously quite comfortable and quite close to the NSA. However the reputation of the Dutch services on a working level - they don't have the same respect that other services might get. For example, the French intelligence services are extraordinarily sophisticated. They're one of the only services that CIA officers operating in Europe actually fear - in counter-intelligence terms. They're very aggressive and they're very good. The Dutch services, in comparison, are seen more as subordinates. They sort of work for the American services. They aren't seen as having independent policies on their own. They really sort of do what we tell them and we share things in return. U.S. intelligence services don't value the Dutch for their capabilities. They value them for their accesses. They value them for their geography. They value them for the fact that they have cables and satellites and sort of a vantage point that enables them to spy on their neighbours and others in the region in a unique way, and by taking advantage of that, the NSA can use their capabilities to greater advantage relative to if they did not have that partnership."]

 

That crazy Snowden himself said that the AIVD had held discussions with the NSA on expanding the law for collecting information via the internet. The fact that Snowden said this shows that he really knows nothing about the legislative process in the Netherlands.

Bertholee rightly concluded: “I see someone who is trapped in Moscow with no escape and is regarded by the Americans as an enemy of the state. Then I think: how does someone like that come by so much knowledge and a seemingly thorough analysis of what is happening in the Netherlands?”

 

Edward Snowden is not a whistleblower, but a common traitor and now a fantasist.
