VIDEOS: From Fying Pan Into Fire: John Kerry Faces India Spy Storm (Indian Media)

This is a series of videos from Indian media on Secretary of State John Kerry's three-day visit to the country. While Kerry escaped the cauldron of the Middle East, he seems to have landed in the Indian frying pan, since almost every news segment on his visit mentions Indian outrage over NSA mass surveillance against India, its government, and its political parties, which has triggered a scandal over whether the last government authorized the NSA to pursue some of its Indian operations. Of course, our crack State Department has failed to provide any video on Kerry's visit or press conferences. After all, India is just a small, unimportant country ...

 

First up is a three minute segment from India's Newsxlive on Kerry's visit, emphasizing the need to challenge the visiting secretary of state on U.S. spying, specifically on the ruling BJP, which just took power in a landslide election:

 

 

Then a video highlighting concerns that Secretary of State Kerry is 'soft on Pakistan', controversy over U.S. spying, and some of the trade issues Kerry is expected to highlight, including on nuclear energy and the military:

 

 

Then, a segment on 'straight-talk' on spying that has featured in all of the discussions with Secretary Kerry, even those that were primarily about trade or defense:

 

 

Then a segment on the scandal that U.S. spying has set off in India. Citing a column published by The Intercept, the report highglights information from the Snowden documents which shows that the United Progressive Alliance, comprised of the Congress Party and other parties that formed India's last government, gave the NSA permission to spy on India, and whether the past government allowed the NSA to spy on opposition parties, one of which, the BJP, just won the Indian elections in a landslide.:

 

 

Next up, a segment on Secretary Kerry's meeting with India Defense Minister Arun Jaitley, which emphasizes once again outrage over U.S. spying on the Indian government and political parties:

 

 

Next, a 45 second video clip of Secretary of State Kerry's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who leads the BJP, which not incidentally was a major target of the NSA spying that Indians are so angry about. There is no audio:

 

 

Then, this is the question and answer session at the end of the press conference yesterday between Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Secretary of State Kerry. The very first question deals with U.S. spying. Kerry utters the usual bromides about how the U.S. values its relationship with India, that the two countries share information on counter-terrorism, that he understands Indian outrage, and that he doesn't comment on intelligence issues. Both Kerry and Swaraj also respond to questions about the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, trade, and China.:

 

 

Next, This is a program called Newshour, and if you think Americans yell at one another, you will never believe this. The argument is almost entirely in English. There is about a minute of Hindi at the very beginning, so don't let that deter you. In a debate is 'moderated' by Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, who is more like a prosecuter, demanding how India could have allowed such an invasion of its sovereighnty by the United States. His guests are the ruling BJP's spokesman MJ Akbar; former U.N. ambassador Hardeep Puri; Congress Party spokesman Shaktisinh Gohil; Congress Party lawmaker D Raja; Outlook Magazine political editor Saba Naqvi; Rahul Narvekar, MLC, NCP spokesman Dr. Subramanian Swamy, BJP senior leader Pavan Verma, and Comminist Party lawmaker Rajya Sabha.:
