Supreme Leader Asserts Americans are Taking Revenge Against Syria

"Is the United States, angry over the way events in the Middle East have unfolded, plotting to topple the Syrian regime? According to this news item from Iran's state-run Mehr News Agency, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who remains mum over the daily murder of hundreds of peaceful anti-regime demonstrators, has asserted that Washington knows Syria is on the 'front line of resistance' in the region, so it wants the regime done away with."

TEHRAN: Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has remarked that the United States is taking revenge on Syria for its recent defeats in certain Arab countries. The Leader made the remark during a meeting with Palestinian Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad Shallah in Tehran on Tuesday.

“The Americans and certain Western countries want to take revenge on Syria for their recent defeats in the region, including in Egypt and Tunisia,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.  "If one closely observes developments unfolding in Syria, it becomes clear that the United States has hatched a plot against the country, and unfortunately, certain foreign and regional countries are involved in it,” he said.

The Leader added, “Because Syria is supporting the Palestinian resistance and Lebanon's Islamic resistance, the main purpose of this American plot is to deal a blow to the front of resistance in the region. … If the Syrian government promises the Americans that it will withdraw its backing for the Islamic resistance in Palestine and Lebanon, all issues will be resolved.”

Ayatollah Khamenei also said, “The stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward Syria is to oppose any sort of interference by the United States and its allies in Syrian affairs and to support any form of reform that favors the country’s people.”

In his remarks, Palestinian Islamic Jihad Secretary General Shallah agreed that the West wants to undermine Syria because of it sits on the front line of resistance in the region.
