Ahmadinejad and
Chávez Agree: 'Our Weapon is Love'
"We
wish it wasn’t [our job], but it is: we have to stop, halt, brake the
imperialist madness that has now been unleashed like it hasn't in many, many
years. … We welcome President Ahmadinejad
with jubilation - and not only to Venezuela. Welcome to our America. The
America of the Indian is standing up again. Our America has begun walking on
its own two feet. We are free; we are no longer colonies of any empire."
Iran President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad listens to a translation of a speech by President Hugo Chavez, welcoming him to, as Chavez like s to say, 'Our America.'
"Spokesmen for North
American imperialism say Ahmadinejad is in Venezuela so that, at this very
moment, 2:30pm, we, Ahmadinejad and I, from the basement of the Miraflores, plan to take
careful aim at Washington. Because they [the Iranians] have missiles, and since
some missiles will be fired, they say we are going to attack Washington. That
is almost the claim they [the U.S.] are making. It makes us laugh, but it also reminds
us to remain alert,” joked Venezuela's chief of state. He was standing outside
the front door of the Miraflores Palace, after saluting Ahmadinejad, and after Chávez
warmly embraced him as he arrived, calling him a "true brother.”
After offering assurances
that both countries are peaceful, Chávez said that it is for Venezuela and Iran
to "stop the imperialist madness."
"That is one of our
tasks. We wish it wasn’t, but it is: we have to stop, halt, brake the
imperialist madness that has now been unleashed like it hasn't in many, many
years," Chavez said.
For his part, the Iranian president
warned that despite the, "Arrogance that doesn't want us to be together,"
he said he would be "forever" at the side of Chávez.
"Our weapon is logic,
culture and human values. And our weapon is love ... We love all people, even
the American people, who now suffer under the yoke of the Arrogance," condemned
the Iranian president, according to his translator.
Ahmadinejad, who is on a tour
that will also take him to Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador, called his Venezuelan
counterpart "dear fellow," and said he is the, "champion of the
Latin American unity and the independence of all peoples."

"Today the Venezuelan
people and the Iranian people, together, are on a path of struggle against all
the greed of arrogant imperialism. The hegemonic system of domination is in decline,
so it has taken on a much more aggressive attitude that tramples on all human
values," pointed out the visitor, who also asked, "May God bless the champion
of freedom, President Chávez."
In his opinion, the
Venezuelan president, "has raised the banner of independence and struggle
for every revolutionary government in the region."
"Without doubt, a future
of nobility and beauty belongs to all peoples," Ahmadinejad said, after forecasting
a future, "free of arrogance, oppression, and everything that the Arrogance
is doing." Ahmadinejad sees a future in which, "everyone is friendly
and sincere toward one another, and in that world, there will be no poverty. We
are working very hard to create such a world."
Highlighting Iranian
assistance that resulted in the construction of 14,000 homes and the installation
of 26 plants to process fruit and vegetables in the country, the Iranian leader said, "For
this and a thousand other reasons, and thanks to the profound human relations
between our peoples, we welcome President Ahmadinejad with jubilation - and not
only to Venezuela. Welcome to our America. The America of the Indian is standing
up again. Our America has begun walking on its own two feet. We are free; we
are no longer colonies of any empire."
