Armistice is 'Dead Letter'; 'Provocateurs' Will Face Retaliatory Strike (Korea Central News, North Korea)

It's that time again: Every year, the United States and South Korea hold joint military exercises called Key Resolve and Foal Eagle. And every year, the North Korean regime reacts with pretend shock, calls them 'madcap', and threatens the participants. But this year, now that the regime has nuclear weapons and transcontinental missiles, the Pyongyang regime has incorporated threats of nuclear retaliation into its Stalinist discourse.

Pyongyang: The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea issued information bulletin No. 1022 on Thursday:

The U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppet warmongers are busy staging the madcap Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises, pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula into a more reckless phase.

In view of the grave situation, the DPRK has declared, both here and abroad, that the Korean Armistice Agreement and all the north-south agreements on non-aggression were nullified as of March 11, when the saber-rattling went into full swing and it became clear that stronger countermeasures were needed.

[Editor's Note: According to the United Nations, the armistice agreement, which was adopted by the U.N. General Assembly, cannot be unilaterally dissolved by either North or South Korea].

Pursuant to this, the army and people of the DPRK have taken positions for the mounting of a final attack for national reunification. All of the most sophisticated methods of attack, including methods for undertaking a nuclear strike, await the order to fire on the appropriate targets.

The measures declared by the DPRK are the proper reaction to the hostile and high-handed actions of the U.S. imperialists and puppet forces to invade the north and issue ultimatums.

Despite this, the puppet forces are challenging the actions of the DPRK, and jabbering that the DPRK is "escalating tensions" and that "south Korea will react strongly to attempts to scrap the Armistice Agreement."

Every day, the puppet authorities and despicable reptilian media take issue with the important measures taken by the DPRK, talking about needing the "agreement of both sides" and "international recognition." Not content with this, they insist that the saber-rattling [military exercises] is a "defensive drill staged every year within the framework of the Armistice Agreement."

As recognized at home and abroad, the Armistice Agreement and agreements on non-aggression were long ago violated and reduced to dead letters by the U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppet forces. They are the ones, the arch criminals, who have systematically violated the Armistice Agreement since the moment it was adopted and took effect.

All legal mechanisms for preventing military conflict are in this land defunct, due to the unprecedented actions of the United States and south Korean puppet forces to stifle the DPRK. Their endless provocations have pushed an already grave situation out of control.

All the year round, U.S. nuclear carrier task forces and strategic nuclear bombers aimed at attacking the DPRK are busy operating in the seas surrounding south Korea and the air above it. Consequently, not a day passes without provocative exercises for a war of aggression against the DPRK.

As a result, the Korean Peninsula has become the most dangerous hotspot on earth, with a dangerous nuclear arsenal that with a mere spark could bring nuclear war.

For provocateurs openly preparing for attack to talk about preserving the Armistice Agreement and non-aggression is the height of shamelessness. The puppet group is ridiculous enough to describe this decision by the DPRK as a "threat" and "psychological warfare."

The aggressors and provocateurs should face up to reality. If they misinterpret the grave situation today as a mere verbal confrontation as have in the past, they are sadly mistaken. The provocateurs will not be able to escape the retaliatory blows, which may come at any moment.

The army and people of the DPRK will blow up all strongholds and bases of the aggressors and provocateurs, which are so fond of playing with fire as they have in the past.

The disturbers of peace, the war provocateurs, and the chieftain of fratricidal confrontation, will find no shelter to escape our righteous attack. The south Korean puppet group had better behave itself.
