The U.S. 'Should Be Cursed' By All Koreans

Did the United States engineer the deadly shelling of South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island, just to provide a pretext for a more direct confrontation with North Korea? According to this editorial roundup from North Korea's government-run Korean Central News Agency, the South Korean government is a mere puppet of Washington, traitorously planning attacks on their fellow Koreans.

Pyongyang: The shelling of Yeonpyeong Island committed by south Korea was a blatant challenge to the desire of the Korean and other peoples for detente and peace on the Korean Peninsula. It was, at the same time, a dangerous provocation aimed at aggravating the situation. On Saturday, leading [North Korean] newspapers carried comments on this.

[Editor’s Note: The North Korean controlled press does not capitalize the "S" in South Korea, implying that it is not an independent nation].

"The shelling conducted by south Korea was deliberate and planned, for the purpose of preserving the "Northern Limit Line," and prepare a location for the launching of an invasion close to DPRK territory," said Rodong Sinmun.

"The shelling revealed the intention of the Lee Myung-bak regime to recover after the disgraceful setback it suffered from its previous provocation, to preserve its policy of confrontation with fellow countrymen and to weather the worsening crisis within its ruling circle," the Rodong Sinmun news analyst added.

The commentary blames the U.S. for egging south Korea into yet another shelling of the DPRK near Yeonpyeong Island.

"By sparking a military clash on the peninsula and pushing the situation to extremes, the U.S. imperialist warmongers seek to resolve the issue of the [U.S. Marine's] Futenma Air Station and quiet south Koreans who are critical of the U.S.-south Korea "Free Trade Agreement." Furthermore, the U.S. seeks to retain a tight grip on south Korea, exercise greater influence over Northeast Asia and recover from setbacks in their standoff with the DPRK over the nuclear issue," the newspaper added.

"The U.S. should be cursed by Koreans and all other peace-loving peoples, since to achieve its aim of aggression and plunder, it is posing a grave threat to peace on the peninsula. South Korea is equally to blame for its reckless activity. Working as a war stooge for the U.S., it may very well bring upon all Koreans a nuclear disaster," the commentary said.

A commentary of [government mouthpiece] Minju Choson said that the recent Yeonpyeong Island shelling was a deliberate military provocation committed by south Korea at the behest of its American master. It added that it was designed to help the south recover from the setback it sustained during the previous shelling, and use the DPRK counterstrike as a pretext for igniting a war against it.

"The reckless actions of the Lee Myung-bak group will precipitate its own destruction," the newspaper warned.
