Donald Trump and Sarah Palin:
Sentinels of American resurgence?
Trump and
Palin Foment Hate and Diminish U.S. Influence (Excelsior, Mexico)
"With
Donald Trump, the United States is regressing. The politics of building walls, alienation
and intolerance toward Latin America will lead to a loss of much of its
regional leadership. A similar context of alienation gave rise to past Central
and South American dictatorships – a fact that the superpower had begun to redress
in the region of the Caribbean closest to it - forging a rapprochement between
Washington and Havana. … This regression of the Republican Party, if
concretized as presidential policy, could translate into a foreign policy
mistake that backfires inwardly by fomenting hatred against the Latino
population and its contribution to U.S. society. ... Like an infectious disease, the Trump thesis against migrants has found an echo in people like Sarah Palin - self-described future energy secretary should the businessman win the election."

In a globalized economy, integration is the key to development.
In an international community with common security challenges, the key is to
deepen shared responsibility. In today's world there's no reversing integration
and co-responsibility as the sole mechanism for prosperity. Yet the United
States of Donald Trump and his allies instead want to build border walls and
foment a climate of hatred in their fallacious attempt to restore their country's
greatness.
Analysts in our neighbor country call on us not to take
Trump's aspirations seriously. Meanwhile, the political discourse is directed
against Mexicans residing there. The latest evidence of this is the aggression
against our compatriot by bodyguards of the presidential candidate in the
context of a peaceful demonstration. A segment of Republicans are concerned that
the real estate magnate's positions will impact the party's chances within the
Latino electorate, but now even the most cautious voices are weaving a
protective media net around the candidate's notorious ignorance. Such is the
case with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who defended Trump's blunders in
an interview on foreign affairs [watch below].
The most ignorant voices flock to Donald Trump's campaign of
racism. Mrs. Sarah Palin, self-described future energy
secretary should the businessman win the election, says that the United States
needs a "tough person" as president. On her television show [watch below] she
congratulated the racist billionaire for confronting "radical activist"
Jorge Ramos. Palin opined that by kicking him out of a press conference the
candidate held with journalists [video, right], Trump "put America first."
Like an infectious disease, the Trump thesis against migrants
has found an echo. Palin herself embodies the lack of consistent criteria in this
area of public policy. Recently she said that Trump's proposals on immigration
are necessary to "put America first"
since the current system rewards those who undertake illegal activity. Let's
not forget that Palin also called for a Republican impeachment or censure of
President Obama, considering measures contained in an executive order issued to
prevent deportations and give work permits to 5 million of the undocumented as an
affront to U.S. workers and taxpayers.

The presidential race should be an occasion for the United
States to re-affirm coherence between the universal values it promotes within
the international community and those that characterize governance and social
cohesion within its own territory - especially when other social groups like
African Americans also suffer inequitable treatment at the hands of law
enforcement in various states of the American Union. U.S. voters should
re-affirm their commitment to the politics of the future, which can be nothing
other than integration and equity as well as closing the door on medieval
policies such as those of Donald Trump and his growing alliance.
