'Peace Prize' Winner Should Close All U.S. Military Bases

Vice President of the Latin American Parliament and Venezuelan Parliament Member Carolus Wimmer has some harsh words about the U.S. president's Nobel Peace Prize - and some advice for him now that he's won.

Caracas: The Nobel Peace Prize that the Norwegian Committee awarded last Friday to U.S. President Barack Obama is a farce that will allow Washington to change its warmongering global tactics, putting an end to the so-called "war on terror" and launching an imperialist war "to secure peace on earth.”

That is how Vice President of the Latin American Parliament and Venezuelan MP Carolus Wimmer described the award bestowed on Obama.

Wimmer emphasized that the “war on terror” policy has failed, because the world had come to realize that the U.S. government, through its military industrial complex, the CIA and the Pentagon, is the greatest terrorist in the world, he informed the Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias.

“Now with the Nobel Peace Prize in his pocket, Washington will develop what might be called the imperialist war to secure peace on earth, in other words, a complete fallacy in order to continue its hegemonic policies,” he explained.

Nevertheless, the MP stressed that Obama should use his award and his "pacifist" oration to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples, as was stated by the Norwegian committee.

“In the first place, he must pull the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan to put an end to the war in the Middle East.”

“In the second instance, he should close the prisons at Guantanamo in Cuba and Abu Ghraib in Iraq, and release all political prisoners and prisoners of war.”

“The third practical step would be to compel the state of Israel to return the territories and wealth it stole from the Palestinian people and defend the Arab people from the continuing violations of human rights perpetrated by Israeli Zionism,” Wimmer said.

He added that another firm step should be to end its support and aide to the coup regime in Honduras and demand, as has the international community, the immediate return of the constitutionally-elected president, Manuel Zelaya.

Additionally, Wimmer felt that Obama should stop intervening in the internal affairs of Latin American countries and the rest of the world, starting with respecting the sovereignty and independence of all nations.

Last but not least, he asserted that Obama must close all U.S. military bases in the world, recall its forces to U.S. soil and abandon warmongering.
