Kayhan, Islamic Republic of Iran

Obama Can Kiss Iranian Help in Afghanistan Goodbye

According to this article by Kian Mokhtari of the Islamic Republic's conservative, state-controlled Kayhan newspaper, "As far as Iran is concerned the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan and Iraq can go the same route as other foreign invaders and occupiers. The very best of luck to you, boys and girls!"

USA TODAY reported last Friday [June 26] that President Barack Obama is re-branding a Bush-era plan to fund anti-Iran elements through domestic and foreign entities.

The Obama White House hasn't only refused to act on the former administration's decision to allocate $66 million to so-called Iranian dissidents, it has devised a new approach and has demanded an additional $15 million.

These Mickey Mouse dollars are to be pumped into a plan called the Near Eastern Regional Democracy Initiative. And oh, according to David Carle, a spokesman for the Senate Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, some of that money will - surprisingly enough - be targeted at Iran. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may; that's not all!

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which promotes the country's “foreign policy,” has filed an application for a $20 million grant earmarked for groups that back opponents of the Iranian government. In promoting the move, USAID has taken up the cudgel on behalf of “democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Iran.”

How nice; so the U.S. is offering to promote the type of democracy in Iran that brought mass murder, mass rape, mass torture and mass imprisonment to the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. Do Iranians get a say in the deal?

In any case, this development comes hot on the heels of a war of words between the presidents of the two countries.

Earlier in the month, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at the West. He said “Under the banner of liberalism, many have committed barbarities and crimes against humanity without facing any kind of punishment.”

The Islamic Republic has also complained bitterly about documented evidence of Western interference in Iran's domestic affairs, not least their direct hand in fomenting post-election violence and riots.

On Saturday, Obama rather swiftly brushed off a call by President Ahmadinejad for an apology for Washington's “meddling in Iran's internal affairs.” [WATCH Obama's Comments].

Obama replied “I don't take Mr. Ahmadinejad's statements about apologies seriously.”

That is just as well, because Iran never took Western requests for it to help interfere in domestic “difficulties” in Afghanistan or Iraq, which were triggered by the illegal U.S.-led invasions of both countries, seriously either. As far as Iran is concerned, the U.S.-led coalition in both countries can go the same route as other foreign invaders and occupiers. The very best of luck to you, boys and girls!

It's with a heavy heart that we throw up our hands and say, Obama is just an African-American reincarnation of George W. Bush. Granted; Obama can beat Bush hands down in any dance contest, “cause ma bro's got rhytheem.”

Bush is the thicko-ugly duckling of the two, who could never be made a swan; but both have shown a tendency to dance to the same neo-conservative tune - and what's worse, Obama is now also in the habit of whistling Dixie.

Imagine what would have happened internationally if Iran openly announced funding to impose its rule over the U.S. or fiddle with America's capitalist autocracy - we meant, ahem, democracy.

But where British and U.S. interference in Iran's domestic affairs are concerned, the Islamic Republic expects to hear the end of it - right now.
