Olympic Flame Arrives in San Francisco

According to this 'news' account from China's rigidly-controlled Xinhua news service, the Olympic flame has arrived in San Francisco after it, 'wrapped up its relay in Paris.' Of course, no mention is made of the mass protesting that forced organizers to drive the torch through the City of Lights on a bus, or the fact that final stages of the relay had to be canceled for security purposes. All is well in the alternate universe of the Beijing regime …

SAN FRANCISCO: On Tuesday, the Olympic flame landed at San Francisco International Airport at 3:40 am for the sixth stop in its global journey.

The sacred flame, after having wrapped up its relay in Paris, is now ready to be carried through San Francisco, which has witnessed the tour of the Olympic flame four times before, namely before the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Games, 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games, the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games, and 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.

The San Francisco route passes the AT&T Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team, the East Bay Bridge, the Ferry Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts, China Town, Lombard Street, the Civic Center, Ciot Tower and Fishermen's Wharf, according to the released itinerary.

High-profile torchbearers will be Lang Ping, the U.S. women's volleyball team coach who captained the Chinese team to twin world championships, former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown and retired firefighter Rick Doran, who is part of the crew that chipped in after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

[Editor's Note: Reporters Without Borders rates China's media as "Situation Very Serious "].
