General Augusto Pinochet: A 20th century version of Darth Vader,
Pinochet toppled Chile's democratically-elected President Salvador
Allende in just one of the many CIA-sponsored coups and other
mishaps that have occurred in Latin America.
The CIA is Alive
and Well in Latin America (Argen Press, Argentina)
"They can't
forgive Chavez for bringing about the creation of the Community of Latin
American and Caribbean States before undergoing cancer surgery in Cuba - and for
not dying. ... the CIA exists - it exists in our countries. It is acting
whether you want it or not, or see it or not. One can be an agent of The
Company without pay (as happened some time ago in a certain military
dictatorship), or one can be paid - it is for you to choose."
In the United States of America, it is a crime to expose
someone working for the CIA. A mere mortal can end up in jail for several
months for unmasking a CIA snitch. This happened - if I recall correctly - to a
woman who revealed that her husband was a CIA agent. I don't know if she was
sentenced to jail, but it was mentioned as a possibility.
The CIA is a gigantic apparatus with an annual budget of hundreds
of millions dollars so that it can maintain neoliberal "stability" across
the entire world. It is said that well-known cases occurring in Latin America are
handled by the CIA. Before it was the FBI that handled such situations, but at
some point, one of the Republican United States governments "discovered"
that it was more practical to take such responsibilities from the FBI and allow
the president of the great empire of the north the use (I would say abuse) the
CIA.
It's not for nothing that they say no operation in the world
is conducted without the involvement of the CIA. In Latin America, not to go
too far afield, there was the attack on
Panama and the aggression
against the Dominican Republic when, a few decades ago, the people chose a president
who didn't please the United States. And for more than half a century now, the United
States has maintained a fierce and criminal blockade of Cuba, for which it is
censured every year by the U.N. General Assembly.
It is also said that CIA, among other verdicts of the great empire
and its minions in our Latin American countries, was behind attempts on the
life of Fidel (who still lives in Havana) and that it wished for the death of [Venezuela
President] Hugo ChávezFrías.
And the diplomat who reported that there was $87 million dedicated to ensuring [Ecuador
President] Rafael Correa was not elected to another four year term was not too
far off. And it goes without saying that [Bolivia President] Evo Morales does not enjoy the warm affections of the great
northern empire.
They can't forgive him (Chávez) for
bringing about the creation of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean
States) before undergoing cancer surgery in Cuba - and for not dying. "Pious
Venezuelans," who in our Ecuador are known by the name " bigwigs"
[pelucones],
fervently wish that the gentleman would die once and for all. They would like
the same to happen to Correa, Morales, and Kirchner's widow [Argentina
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner]. And on and
on. Even the bigwigs who are presidents of some "trusted" countries
aren't spared. They forget that "the people you kill are in better health
than you are."
The most curious thing is that Chile, which just democratically
elected Mr. SebastíánPińera
and has had some successes under its belt, would sponsor a meeting of CELAC, whose president for 2012 was precisely Mr. Pińera. But for the year that just began, 2013, the
presidency falls to Cuba through its President Raúl
Castro Ruiz - and that the United States cannot allow.
But here's the kicker: If my information is correct - and
memory doesn't fail me - on January 26, 2013, a CELAC
summit meeting with the heads of state of Latin American countries - or at
least a majority of them - is to begin in Santiago, Chile. And without the United
States and (also) Canada. That gives an allergic rash to the powers that be in
the United States and the Creole oligarchies that are doing what they can to
keep that $87 million in their coffers.

As a consequence, Mr. Ignacio Walker and his
brother Patricio have appeared in Santiago de Chile. These days they are promoting
CDAL (The Center for Opening and Development), which
would act as a counterpart to CELAC. All because of
the continued imposition of a doctrine proclaimed by President
Monroe (America for Americans) and that we became, in their words, the "backyard"
of the great northern empire.
A 20th century newspaper cartoon depicting the Monroe Doctrine.
The cartoon is in error saying that the Monroe Doctrine was first
proclaimed in 1893, The coin was termed in 1853, and the policy
was first initiated by President Monroe in 1823.
"Incidents" like the ruthless attack on [Chile
presidential palace] La Moneda and the death of [Chile] President Allende, are attributed to the old CIA. Not long ago,
the great empire brought "freedom and democracy" to Iraq, hung its
former ally Saddam Hussein, and failed to find a single "weapon of mass
destruction" that, according to the great empire and its
so called experts, were to be found there. The same happened with Libya: they
killed that extravagant commandante whose name was Qaddafi
on the street. Now they want to do the same with Syria and deposit its dollars in
U.S. and European banks. Right.
I want to say that the CIA exists - it exists in our
countries. It is acting whether you want it or not, or see it or not. One can
be an agent of The Company without pay (as happened some time ago in a certain
military dictatorship), or one can be paid - it is for you to choose.
