An Open Letter to
President Obama: Stop Protecting 'Murderer' Davis
"We
all know that Raymond Davis didn't have a diplomatic visa. … Diplomacy is for
the purpose of reaching out to improve relations between states and their
peoples, but in Pakistan, the people see nothing but American mercenaries in
the garb of 'diplomats' who terrorize the local population and murder at will."
Raymond Davis, reportedly a member of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad or U.S. Consulate in Lahore, is accussed of a double murder. Davis claims it was self-defense.
Mr. President: We, the female
leaders of Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf, the political party led by Imran Khan, appeal to you on
the grounds of justice and humanity to prevent your State Department and its
diplomats from committing a travesty of justice against the people of Pakistan.
So many Pakistani lives have already been sacrificed for the U.S.-led war on
terror, and so many innocent Pakistanis continue to be killed by CIA drone
attacks. Now your government is seeking to absolve one of your citizens of a
double murder of two Pakistani civilians he has committed when justice and fair
play demand that the due process of the Pakistani law be allowed to take its
course.
By seeking to effectively give
your citizen, Raymond
Davis, retroactive diplomatic immunity, your secretary of state and your ambassador
in Islamabad are holding to the view that Americans can murder Pakistanis. We
all know that Davis didn't have a diplomatic visa so wasn't given diplomatic
status by our government. Copies of his visa have been viewed by our citizens
through the media, so we are well aware of the pressure tactics being used by
the U.S. government to undermine due process of law in Pakistan.

This view is further
substantiated by the fact that the U.S. Embassy is refusing to hand over other American
citizens who murdered a third Pakistani by running him over in their car and
then fleeing the scene. In fact, the manner in which U.S. diplomats are seeking
to set a murderer free makes them complicit in the crime, particularly with
their demands becoming increasingly threatening and from our national
perspective, completely untenable.
For too long, Since September
11, 2001, our innocent citizens have been killed and victimized at the hands of
various U.S. personnel. We, the people of Pakistan, say enough is enough. The women
leaders of PTI insist that if America wants to work with Pakistan, then there must
be mutual respect and honesty. We demand that private security operatives and
Langley agents not be given diplomatic cover.
Diplomacy is for the purpose
of reaching out to improve relations between states and their peoples, but in
Pakistan, the people see nothing but American mercenaries in the garb of
“diplomats” who terrorize the local population and murder at will. In the Davis
case, four people have died. One, an innocent young bride of three months who
lost her young husband. And due to the way his memory was besmirched by corrupt
politicians and seeing no hope of any justice being done, she took her own
life.
Can Secretary of State Mrs.
Clinton, who has been screaming for the release of the murderer Davis, answer
one question: if this had happened to her daughter, would she not have
relentlessly sought justice? We ask for no more and no less. Raymond Davis deserves
no protection; he and his ilk have no place in any civil society, neither
yours, nor ours.
