Enraged
protesters in Karachi demand the hanging of Raymond
Davis,
who shot to death two Pakistanis he claims were trying
to
rob him, Feb. 3.

Pakistan Courts Must Prosecute
American 'Killer' Raymond Davis
"Why
would a ruling hierarchy so subserviently enslave itself to Uncle Sam, as ours
has, to the point that America's lords feel no compunction about making and
demanding strict compliance with the wildest requests? Not even the third-rate
leadership of a banana republic would so completely and cheaply sell its soul."
Raymond Davis, reportedly a member of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad or U.S. Consulate in Lahore, is accussed of a double murder. Davis claims it was self-defense.
The story is out on the
audacious U.S. bullying, blackmail and behind-the-scenes coercion of the Islamabad
hierarchy into letting off American murderer and staffer Raymond Davis, who shot
two Pakistani citizens to death in Lahore. America's terse message to the
Pakistan establishment is "release him at once or face a chill on all
bilateral contacts."
[Editor's Note: According
to the Christian Science Monitor, The U.S. insists the American,
Raymond Davis, enjoys diplomatic immunity and has been wrongfully detained
since he allegedly shot two motorcyclists tailing him in Lahore on Jan. 27. The
Pakistani press reports that the two men Davis is charged with killing were
actually agents of Pakistan’s intelligence service, ISI, who were assigned to
tail Davis.]
Our American lords show no
concern that Raymond's case is now in the domain of the courts. They have no
patience for due process, which could see the American slayer’s release if it's
shown that he does indeed enjoy diplomatic immunity. They aren't even troubled
in heart or conscience over the sad demise of the widow of one of those Davis
killed, who took her life in grief and dejection. Nor do they seem perturbed by
the death of another Pakistani citizen under the wheels of a recklessly-driven
vehicle, which was part of Davis' American rescue party and was being driven on
the wrong side of the road. Diplomatic immunity or not - they just want their
murderer back. That’s that.
But isn’t this a sorrow of
our own making? Why would a ruling hierarchy so subserviently enslave itself to
Uncle Sam, as ours has, to the point that America's lords feel no compunction about
making and demanding strict compliance with the wildest requests? Not even the
third-rate leadership of a banana republic would so completely and cheaply sell
its soul as. The embrace of America's lords has proven deadly. Yet our leaders
do it again and again to the great disgrace and woe of our people and the colossal
cost to our solidarity and cohesion as a nation. Furthermore, this
"embrace" has caused incalculable harm to our state’s security and
stability.
Craving international
legitimacy for his illegitimate rule, a desperate General Zia-ul-Haq didn’t hesitate for
a moment to sell out our unfortunate nation to Uncle Sam, so Washington could settle
scores with the Soviet invaders of Afghanistan. This "uncle" avenged
the humiliation that the U.S. invaders had suffered at Soviet-backed hands in
Vietnam. But without even a word of thanks, it left us the troublesome child of
religious stridency, an injurious gun culture, drug trafficking and addiction.
The embrace of Pervez
Musharraf turned out to be yet more fatal to our nation and state. To
perpetuate his illegitimate rule, he sold us out both more cheaply and ignobly.
He let Americans make a virtual colony of Pakistan, giving them free reign to
ply their devilish trade. They knew of no law in our land, and were a law unto
themselves. They were the masters - and the natives their slaves. And while the
nation struggled to remove the poisonous harvest of Zia’s embrace, Musharraf’s
added yet more inflammable fuel to the pile.
American masters infested our
tribal regions and even deeply settled in some places, attracting proxies laden
with money, weapons and the equipment of war to challenge the authority of our
own state and to the great grief to relations with nearby countries, harboring
alien dissidents to create subversion in our neighbors. As if that wasn't
enough, our incumbent hierarchs' embrace of this is part of a larger picture, yet
more slavish, more demeaning, and more ruinous to our people.

Not only has this trashed
whatever bit of sovereignty the nation had left after the hugs of Zia and
Musharraf, it has left the lives, honor and dignity of our people to the
mercies of Uncle Sam's creatures. When from top to bottom, Islamabad leaders, rather
than bemoaning the demise of our innocent compatriots in U.S. drone strikes, they
fretfully counsel our American lords to end such attacks because they exacerbate
anti-American sentiment, what else can one expect?
So it is American interests
rather than the lives and blood of our own people that are uppermost in the
minds of our hierarchs. And while Americans are calculatedly keeping quiet about
the killers of the third murder victim in Lahore, who may have been spirited safely
back to his homeland, Pakistan leaders are too conveniently and collusively silent,
and so are the Lahore fort’s keepers. Although curiously enough, the
disinterest in the story of these wretched dead by our media’s “ace”
investigative journalists is deafening.
Yet our leaders must know - power
comes from their own people, not from aliens. Aliens are indeed always the
first to jump from a sinking ship. The Tunisian and Egyptian episodes alone should
tell them all they need to know. They must rethink their act. Standing by their
own people will bring benefits to them. Betraying their people will cost them
dearly. In this grisly murder case, they must let the law take its course.
