Iraqi Shiites burn effigies of President George W. Bush and Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice during a protest against a security treaty
between the U.S. and Iraq, Oct. 18, 2008. Are Shiites 'ungrateful'
to
America, after Washington put power back in their hands?
America's Justified
'Hatred' of Iraqi Shiites (Sotal Iraq, Iraq)
"I believe
that it is Americans who have every right to hate Shiites - because Shiites are
ungrateful. Everything they have is thanks to the Americans, who uprooted and
toppled Saddam's regime and handed them power after centuries of continuous
Sunni persecution."

Iraq - Sotal Iraq - Original Article (Arabic)
First of all, I want to thank all of those who write as if
for the hearts of the people. The tragedy is that no one reads or cares about
what you or any other noble Iraqi writes. For they - by which I mean the people
you write about - are too busy looting booty they haven't dreamed of for dozens
of not hundreds of years, to pay any attention to you.
In any case, let's get back to the issue of Shiite hatred. I
believe that it is Americans who have every right to hate Shiites - because Shiites
are ungrateful. Everything they have is thanks to the Americans, who uprooted
and toppled Saddam's regime and handed them power after centuries of continuous
Sunni persecution. But under the direct orders of Iran, and with the help of
Iran's many agents in Iraq (no need to name them here) - they began fighting
the Americans.
This validates one of Saddam's comments that the Dawa
Party, the Mahdi Army and, so-and-so’s party, are "Iranian agents."
If the Palestinians themselves agree on the need for peace with Israel, then who
is responsible for magnifying Shiite hostility against Israel - and why? Is
this some kind of competition or attempt to show off ? And why would young
Shiites rush to defend vindictive Palestinian- Sunnis who send their people to
kill Shiites? These, sir, are empty and pointless ideals, which lead only to
the ruin of countries - just as Saddam’s pointless policies did, and as Nasrallah’s latest war on Israel will.
Here I would like to ask: which would be best for Iraqi
progress and development, an alliance with Iran or the United States? Only harm
can come to us from Iran's Shiites. A wise man would say: Close the door through
which the wind is blowing and rest
easy. What will Iran’s empty boasting lead to except for a headache? Undoubtedly,
all Shiites will be agitated by this and won’t accept it. After all, when the
going gets tough, no one [no Shiites] step forward, just like our failed [Shiite
founder] Al-Hussein,
you can huff and puff all night about it, but what good will it do?
[Editor's Note: The author is obviously alienated from
his fellow Iraqi Shiites, as this is a major insult. In the seventh century, Al-Hussein,
who is recorded as a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, considered the ruling Umayyad
Caliphate unjust, and sought to restore a "genuine" Islamic polity. He
was beheaded, but his movement lived on and later toppled the Umayyad -
forerunners of the Sunnis. This was the beginning of the great Sunni-Shiite
schism].

It a terrible shame that Shiites have no friends. But after
all, they were the backbone of Saddam’s Fedayeen and made up a good number of his loyalists
and members of the Ba'ath
Party (then a close ally of today's Dawa
Party). After Saddam's regime fell under American fire, all Shiites
suddenly became turban-wearing sheikhs and members of thieving religious
parties. Now after all that, how can America be blamed for hating Shiites? Best regards from a Shiite who
hasn’t exactly been embraced by his fellows. But is obedience to authority all
that matters?
[Editor's Note: The author asserts that the Dawa Party was working with the Saddam regime. It must be
pointed out that the Dawa Party was founded in 1968
by Muqtada
al-Sadr's father in law, Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, in response to
the Ba'ath regime's repression of Shiite religious schools].
