Arab World 'Impotent' but to Witness Iran's Ascent to Dominance

"Iran will be gradually integrated into the geostrategic machinery that the U.S. seeks to constitute in order to guarantee its continued control over the energy riches of the region. … In this 'great game' that prevails in their region, the Arab States will end up the big losers."

Iranian regime is unsavory. Its leaders aren't respectable even to the eyes of the most lukewarm democrat. That being said, it's important not treat them like unrealistic idealists who don't know what they want.

Since its inception, the Islamic Republic of Iran has worked with rare persistence and perseverance to do what it had to do to establish itself as a regional power and ultimately a significant player in the international arena. These two objectives have been achieved regardless of the outcome of the crisis involving Iran and its nuclear ambitions. Hence forward in the Middle East, any agreement aimed at pacifying and stabilizing the situation will be obliged to pass through Tehran.

The entire Arab world is impotent but to witness Iran's ascent to power - to the point of timidly seeking the umbrella of the West and Israel - and paying any price to reach a compromise with them. As a result, we must dispense with Western depictions of Iranian leaders as the inveterate negotiators and talkers of the “international community.” This is not the view of diplomats and embassies in this part of the world, where our people skills and “finesse” have been smashed by the deft maneuvering and pragmatism of these Iranian leaders.

Alongside Israel and Turkey, Iran is now a dominant power in this region and beyond in the direction of Central Asia.

This status will mean that Iran will be gradually integrated into the geostrategic machinery that the United States seeks to constitute in order to guarantee its continued control over the energy riches of the region, with local gendarmes to "contain" the terrorist nuisance.

Some would contend that conflicting reports about ties between the Zionist state and the Iranian Mullahs negate the likelihood of such a scenario. But it only appears so due to the lack of “trust” in the pragmatism of Teheran's holders of power. The “hatred” they have developed for the Zionist state, which is only for domestic and Arab-Muslim consumption, is neither doctrinal nor eternal. It is therefore prone to disappear in exchange for a consideration of the interests of concern to the mullahs and the Persian nation. The “Iran-Gate Scandal" [aka the Iran-Contra Scandal] in the 1980s showed that when their national interests converge, Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran are able to transcend their supposedly irreconcilable antagonisms.

In a notable show of unity and verbal resolve, President Obama, along

with British Prime Minister Brown and French President Sarkozy, arrive to

make a statement on Iran's admission that it has built another uranium

enrichment facility, during the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh, Sept. 25.

In this “great game” that prevails in their region, the Arab States will end up the big losers. For both the United States and the West as well as for Israel and Iran, it is our nations that are the problem in the Middle East rather than actors that can contribute to a solution.

It is within this context that we will need to decipher the evolution of Teheran’s relations with the “international community” in the weeks and years ahead.
