In spite of major advances in life and the appearance of dozens of children oriented cable channels, the traditional and class

Shiite cleric and political leader Moqtada al-Sadr, right welcomes the

Iyad Allawi, winner of Iraq's election four months ago, to a meeting

in Syria on July 19. Syria called the meeting to try and bridge the

gap between Sunni Allawi and Shiite al-Sadr. Since Allawi is seen as

less sensitive to Iranian influence, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon,

Jordan and Egypt all favor him over Prime Minister Maliki.

Iraqi Politicians Praise America Without Cause!

"When Mr. Ali al-Adeeb openly and flagrantly declares his support for the Americans without being pressured to do so and without it being a national or party necessity, it is bound to result in negative consequences for him, a man who has stepped on and spit at his own history, principles and convictions."

Iraq - Kitabat - Original Article (Arabic)

It seems that a lust for power has led some advocates to alter their rhetoric, convictions and even the principles that they once tried to make people more aware of. Certainly, this criticism doesn't mean that we don't want an understanding with the United States, agree on a plan of action or be friends with Americans. Neither does it mean we want to change the way the Americans now look at these advocates as people who have repudiated their Islamic beliefs.

Such advocates have a right to change their rhetoric and points of view in a way that serves their interests and purposes. What we want to emphasize in this context is that they volunteered to reject honorable positions they didn’t have to compromise or deny, particularly those they held in order to try and persuade others not to participate in the London Conference. [Author refers to one of the international conferences called to help rebuild Iraq].

Today Mr. Ali al-Adeeb clearly and explicitly stated that the United States is anxious for us to form a new government!!! Meanwhile, it's well known that al-Adeeb is a writer filled with conspiracy theories, is apprehensive about the games nations play and has been suspicious of Washington since he launched his Islamic movement.

Today, Mr. al-Adeeb turned his back on all of his previous convictions, openly asserting that Biden's visit to Baghdad demonstrated that Washington is anxious to speed the formation of a government.

[Editor's Note: While the author isn't explicit about what Ali al-Adeeb may have said that amounts to a rejection of everything he ever stood for, according to one of our Iraqi associates, during his exile before the U.S. invasion, he was known for his dislike of the United States. After the 2003 invasion, however, some Shiites have come to believe that his loyalties have changed, and he is now seen as too favorably disposed toward the U.S. According to the Iraqi affairs Web Site Niqash, al-Adeeb has been quoted as favoring the formation of a new political coalition as "an important step toward the formation of the government and toward ending the country’s current crisis.” This is a betrayal to those who favor the current ruling coalition of Nouri al-Maliki. Ali al-Adeeb is a senior advisor to Prime Minister Maliki and member of his Islamic Dawa Party].

We wouldn’t be surprised if such a comment came from Sami al-Askari, a man known for his volatile changes of loyalties and strong ties to British intelligence during this regime and the last. We certainly expect people in addition to al-Adeeb to praise Washington in a bid for its affections.

[Editor's Note: Sami al-Askari is an independent member of the Iraq National Assembly].

So when Mr. Ali al-Adeeb openly and flagrantly declares his support for the Americans without being pressured to do so and without it being a national or party necessity, it is bound to result in negative consequences for him, a man who has stepped on and spit at his own history, principles and convictions.

But this is a fact of life for selfish climbers who aspire to gain and retain power at all costs - even if the cost is pools of blood, a quagmire of mistakes and the body parts of innocent people.

By Allah, we deeply regret the place such advocates have come to. All of their convictions and positions have been co-opted when they could have changed tack without putting all of their grapes in America's basket. They should try to maneuver without being involved with praising the Americans in broad daylight. When there is no necessity to do so, they shouldn't heap praise and cheap congratulations on Washington.

Let us remind these advocates: your culture and way of life were once devoted to independence and non-subordination to others. Yet such will be the consequences of your actions, you lovers of power and self interest.
