Venezuela Must Do to Chavez
What the U.S. Did to Nixon! …
“In the U.S., it wouldn’t occur to anyone to say that Nixon was
ousted in a coup d'état because he was removed prior to the end of his term; he
was deposed as soon as his ineptitude became evident, period. … It is
imperative that we remove from office this immoral non-government that has
destroyed everything and respects nothing (Nixon sucked his thumb in
comparison).”

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez: Grumblings over his reign are
beginning to grow.

It's imperative that we remove
from office this immoral non-government that has destroyed everything and
respects nothing.
The United States is a nation of
institutions. To the highest offices rise those who are the most capable and
who have had the most impeccable careers. The processes of selecting a judge or
electing a senator are so rigorous that it’s almost beyond reason. But the
golden rule is to find the individual that is the most qualified.
To study the life histories of its
judges is to be challenged to keep admiration from turning into envy. The same
can be said for members of Congress or those climbing the executive government
ladder. And, most of all, the Presidency continues to be the most sacred
institution, because the United States is a presidential nation.

Without digressing into subjective
issues, such as whether I like or don't like this or that, no one can deny the
respect that they [people in the U.S.] profess toward democracy and freedom.
And if the issue is defending their values, they are fully capable of
prematurely terminating a president’s term if he violates sacred principles. It
wouldn’t occur to anyone to say that Nixon was ousted in a coup d'état because
he was removed prior to the end of his term in office; he was deposed as soon
as his ineptitude became evident, period.

In Venezuela, we confuse the suit
with the person, which is why we insist on utterly expendable formality. It is
imperative that we remove from office this immoral non-government that has
destroyed everything and respects nothing (Nixon sucked his thumb in
comparison); all else pales in importance compared to this. If we unite our
forces and activate the existing mechanisms, this nightmare [the reign of Hugo
Chavez] could (and should) culminate this year.
The person who leads the destiny of
our nation [Hugo Chavez] has demonstrated neither the capacity nor the moral
authority worthy of such a dignified post. We must employ all of our energies
and resources to solve this problem, which is yours and mine. Venezuela has
spectacular people – and she deserves dignified representation. We can no
longer tolerate losing that which is most sacred.
