Obama-Biden vs. Osama bin Laden

"Osama bin Laden has never lived in the Americas, but thanks to the slaughter he directed on September 11, 2001, he became the most important U.S. elector by triggering Bush's rise in the polls. The greatest vote-getter that McCain could hope for would be if bin Laden would allow himself to be captured or if he carried out another massive attack."

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin: John McCain's shock-choice for a Vice Presidential running mate.

Osama bin Laden has never lived in the Americas, but thanks to the slaughter he directed on September 11, 2001, he became the most important U.S. elector by triggering Bush's rise in the polls.

Until then, he was a new President with little popularity and who had reached the post despite having lost the election.

To the degree that Bush has been unable to capture him or stop his advance, the governing Republican Party has been undermined.

The greatest vote-getter that McCain could hope for would be if bin Laden would allow himself to be captured or if he carried out another massive attack.

The Democrats have just settled on the Obama-Biden ticket, a ticket that although it sounds much like the name of the al-Qaeda leader, may well win the election anyway provided that the figure of Osama bin Laden doesn’t rise to the forefront again.

Osama, however, must be wondering whether a victory for Obama would be more dangerous to him than one by McCain, since the African-American will give the United States a new image and get the U.S. out of Iraq to concentrate on hunting down and capturing him.

JOE BIDEN

In choosing a running mate, Obama didn't choose Hillary (for fear that this would certainly undermine him or alienate much of the electorate) or someone who would reinforce his image of “change” (but not attract other voters). Instead, he chose a well-know individual of an opposing camp within his Party in order to add counter-balance to his own image.

Obama anointed Biden as his Vice President. Biden won’t overshadow him (he had little support in 1988 and 2008 when he ran for the Democratic nomination - and he's much older). Biden is a Catholic with a working class background (two sectors where Obama is weak). He initially supported the invasion of Iraq and attacked Obama as not being prepared to be President. But by choosing him, the African-American offers a bridge to those who have a different view.

He also is trying to rebuff accusations that he's inexperienced by having a Vice President who was elected to the Senate six times and as Leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee three times. What's more, elections in the United States are decided in a few swing states - one of those being Pennsylvania, where Biden has a lot of influence.
