Disney acquired Marvel. What's
Disney? Animated drawings. What's Marvel? Drawn characters. Then there
is Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse - these characters were born projected onto a
screen and speaking with voices that could be heard, with background music,
running, motion, in short, they were cartoon characters - and they are the ones
who did the buying.
Then there is Captain Marvel
and Spider-Man, powerful but
confined to paper, with muscles but silent, moving through the air but static, without
audible voices but with letters in a balloon; in other words, comic book heroes
- and it was they who were purchased. There is, moreover, a precedent to this: Warner acquired DC Comics. Warner,
which has the "beep-beep" Road Runner
who we saw and heard escape the coyote's traps [Wile E. Coyote], Warner with
the dancing legs of Bugs
Bunny, Warner of animated drawings - it is Warner that did the buying.

And then there is the DC
Comics of Clark Kent,
who, goes into a telephone booth with glasses in one drawing and comes out in
an entirely different drawing as Superman - it was DC Comics - a
collection of drawn characters - which was acquired.
From Disney and Marvel
to Warner and DC Comics, there is a pattern: those who keep moving, buy;
those who stand still, are purchased. That is just as true in cartoons as it is
in real life.
