Saudi Arabia Again Proves Mettle Battling Terrorism
"The Saudi security services played a major role in the detection of the parcel bombs and in warning a number of countries. King
Abdullah Bin Abd Al Aziz received the thanks of President Obama, leader of the world's
most important country ... Terrorism has no religion to identify it and
is present in every society, as it is in our own. Hence the historic call of
the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for a convergence of understanding
between religions."
Ibrahim Hassan Al Asiri: The Saudi man thought to have made the parcel bombs that were reportedly mailed from Yemen by a female medical student and discovered before going off.
Recent events have once again
proven the correctness of the Saudi approach under the guidance of the
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in the fight against terrorism, the healthy
measures the Saudis have taken to disrupt the schemes of lost groups who have not only dropped from
their lexicon all terms that stand for humanity, but have adopted as tactics the massacre
of innocents and the infringement of private behavior. Such tactics are very damaging to
orthodox Islam, which is as far away from terrorism as one can get. That was understood
early on by the Saudi leadership, which has worked on a multi-pronged strategy
that has brought numerous successeses and has resulted in the dismantling of many terrorist
cells, be they inside the Kingdom or out.
[Editor's Note: The phrase
"lost group" is used by the Saudis to designate Saudi Arabians
engaged in terrorism. In this article, the author refers primarily to al-Qaeda,
which is led by Saudi-born Osama bin Laden].

When the Custodian of the Two
Holy Mosques, King
Abdullah Bin Abd Al Aziz, spoke a few days before of a number of foreign
ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom about Saudi achievements in the fight
against terrorism and its global role in that regard, he reminded them about
the need for international vigilance to defeat all of those who are working to
destabilize global stability, because such rogue groups thrive on spreading
disruption and luring some young people into serving their destructive goals.
In the last few days, the entire
world has recognized the leading role of the Kingdom at all levels for drying
up the sources of terrorism under a cloak of Islam. Those successes were not
only at the security level, where Saudi security, under the leadership of Second
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Nayef
Bin Abd Al Aziz, has scored major successes, but in the social and
human fields, where families of those who have been lured are mentored - and where counseling
programs to correct the religious behavior of victims of terrorist misguidance
are provided. This is an area in which the Kingdom has been uncompromising, and
through its efforts it has helped protect the national security of the entire
region. That's not new for Saudi Arabia, which has taken on the responsibility
in every field for maintaining regional stability, seeking to keep it from plunging into a cycle of violence and extremism while also working
to help maintain international security.
All of these achievements
belong to the Kingdom and its leadership and confirm that what the Custodian of
the Two Holy Mosques told foreign ambassadors wasn't just sloganeering, but is the
core of Saudi Arabia's strategy to implement a new approach to dealing with the
issue of terrorism.

This was inconclusively demonstrated
by the incident involving the discovery of parcel bombs. The Saudi security services
played a major role in their detection and in warning a number of countries; and
before that, the warning about terrorist attacks being planned by these lost groups
in a number of European countries. This is why the Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques received the thanks of President Barack Obama, leader of the world's
most important country, and a number of European leaders.
The vision shown by Saudi Arabia
is based on the fact that the fight against extremism cannot be directed unilaterally,
because every extremism creates a counterpart on the opposite extreme, and
therefore, a dialogue of religions to counter ignorance on the other side is
required to bring these differing communities together. That is the best cure
for the disease of our times, because terrorism has no religion to identify it and
is present in every society, as it is in our own. Hence the historic call of
the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for a convergence of understanding
between religions to put an end to the risk of unthinkable bloodshed practiced by
terrorist groups, of which the lost groups are today the most apparent.
