Obama's Lack of Sportsmanship at World Cup Bidding Insults Arabs

"By failing to hasten to congratulate his competition in the spirit of good sportsmanship, President Obama abandoned the civilized behavior expected of him. But the U.S. president (the loser) didn’t stop there. He nervously fled the press conference in front of the eyes and ears of the world; only to announce that awarding Qatar the honor of hosting the 2022 World Cup was the 'wrong decision'! Why is it wrong, Mr. Obama?"

Sheikha Moza, wife of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, holds the World Cup trophy after Qatar was chosen to host the 2022 World Cup.

President Barack Obama's reaction to Qatar's winning the honor of hosting the 2022 World Cup shows just how much arrogance, conceit and hubris the United States exercises when dealing with the rest of the world. Worse still is that America's reaction demonstrated the sense of superiority the Americans feel over all international bodies and organizations, including the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), despite the fact that the Association isn't a political institution! Americans aren't used to be dealt with fairly and impartially when it doesn't benefit their interests. This is clear to be seen at the largest such global institution, by which I mean of course the United Nations.

It seems that the advocates of America's World Cup bid traveled to Zurich as if they were going to New York, where they are used to obtaining the global resolutions they desire under the chapter of the U.N. Charter they prefer most; if they want war, they adopt a resolution under Chapter VII; if all they want to do is hint at the use of force, it's enough for them to simply threaten and pass a Chapter VI resolution. And all of this happens, of course, without anyone being able to ask them: “What's a third of three?”! Since the mentality of Americans arose under conditions like these, they couldn’t bare the great shock and disappointment that they reaped in Zurich.

[Editor's Note: Under the U.N. Charter, Chapter VII allows the Security Council to take military action to address" any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression" to "restore international peace and security." Chapter VI requires states with disputes that could lead to war to first try to seek a solution through peaceful methods. If such methods fail, then they must refer the dispute to the U.N. Security Council.]

Furthermore, by failing to hasten to congratulate his competition in the spirit of good sportsmanship - after all, the World Cup is more than anything a sports competition - President Obama abandoned the civilized behavior expected of him on such occasions, as befits a president of a republic and a great nation like the United States. And the American president (the loser) didn’t stop there. He nervously fled the press conference in front of the eyes and ears of the world; only to announce that awarding Qatar the honor of hosting the 2022 World Cup was the "wrong decision"! Why is it wrong, Mr. Obama? How is it possible for you to oversee so much without having had access to Qatar's bid?

It's a wrong decision and that's all there is to it! … I'm the president of the United States, so you must accept everything I say! I'm the inspired president of the country that fights for the greater good and eradicates evil from the world.

This American cowboy doesn’t know a thing about sports or the spirit of good sportsmanship. This cowboy knows how to play one game and one game only - and that's the game of death.
