Luis Posada Carriles:
Born in Cuba with
Venezuelan
citizenship, there is evidence
that Carriles is
behind a 1976 terrorist
attack against a Cuban
civilian aircraft -
and that he was a CIA
operative. He has
been given asylum in
the United States.
Now Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez
charges that he's
behind an attempt on
his life that took
place two weeks ago.

Obama 'Must
Extradite' Terrorist Behind Plot to Kill Chavez
Is the
United States shielding a terrorist that is not only responsible for a number
of terrorist attacks, including the bombing of a civilian airliner, and most
recently an attempt on the life of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela?
According to Venezuela's state press agency Agencia Bolvariana de Noticias, a
man named Luis Posada Carriles, who it has been established was a CIA operative
in the 1960s and 70s, was involved in a plot to kill Chavez that was foiled two
weeks ago.

Caracas: The National
Leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, the party of Hugo
Chavez) expressed absolute solidarity with its president, as well as the
President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and leader of the Bolivarian
Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, after denouncing an assassination plot against President
Chavez which was to take place during his planned trip to attend the
inauguration of El Salvador's new head of state, Mauricio Funes.
The statement was issued at a
press conference Wednesday by Vanessa Davies, a member of the PSUV executive
committee, held at party headquarters in Maripérez, Caracas. Ms. Davies was referring
to the PSUV press release on the assassination plot, which it is assumed
involves certain ultra right-wing elements in Venezuela and elsewhere in Latin
America, as well as terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.
[Editor's Note: The United
States refuses to extradite or prosecute Castro opponent Luis Posada Carriles, who
is sought by Venezuela and Cuba on charges that he was instrumental in the 1976
bombing of a Cubana airliner that killed 73 people. The State Department has
refused Venezuelan extradition requests by arguing that the charges against the
anti-Castro militant, "were not sufficiently supported from a legal point
of view." Declassified
CIA documentation that shows Pasada was a CIA operative and was
instrumental in the crash tells another story].
In the communiqué, the PSUV Executive
Committee denounced the disrespect and mockery with which the news was received
by the majority of the nation's media outlets. In addition, the PSUV statement
calls on U.S. President Barack Obama to extradite the terrorist Luis Posada
Carriles, who is thought to be involved in the assassination scheme.
"President Obama: extraditing
Posada Carriles to Venezuela would be an act of justice toward all Latin
American people. Show your goodwill toward our nation and the entire continent.
We want to put an end to impunity and punish a terrorist who is bathed in the blood
of our entire greater homeland," the communiqué says.
Below is the complete text of the communiqué:
"Enough
of impunity. We demand the extradition of the terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.
The national leadership of the PSUV
reaches out to national and international public opinion in order to, first of
all, denounce the newest plan to make an attempt on the life of the President
of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías.
The Venezuelan and Latin
American ultra-right continue their attempts to assassinate the leader of the
Bolivarian Revolution, this time taking advantage of the inauguration ceremony
of the new president of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes.
Second, be advised that the
person behind these plans is a Venezuelan national and terrorist Luis Posada
Carriles, a fugitive from justice in our country who is protected by the judiciary
of the United States and by counter-revolutionary mafia that is active there.
[a reference to the Cuban exile community in south Florida].
Third: Recall that there are
unpatriotic people who insist on sowing violence and who have no scruples about
allying themselves with international terrorism and criminals like Luis Posada
Carriles. Investigations will unravel a web of assassination plans and
participation by Venezuelan ultra right figures in those plans.
Fourth: We denounce the
trivialization by some media outlets of the assassination plot. We know, from
the sinister interference of the Central Intelligence Agency in Latin America,
that after discredit and moral death are sown, assassination, crime and
physical annihilation follow.

Fifth:
We again demand that the government of the United States extradite Luis Posada
Carriles to our country.
President Obama: To extradite Posada Carriles to Venezuela would
be an act of justice toward all Latin American people. Show your goodwill
toward our nation and the entire continent. We want to put an end to impunity
and punish a terrorist who has bathed in the blood of our entire greater
homeland."
