Why has North Korea chosen this moment to fire live artillery shells

on South Korean soldiers and civilians? South Koreananalysts of the

Hermit Kingdom suspect the provocative behavior is linked to the

dynastic succession of Kim Jong-un, son of Kim Jong-il, seen above

South Korean ‘Puppets’ Provoked ‘Merciless Counterstrikes’

So why has North Korea fired dozens of artillery shells at South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island, triggering renewed concern that war could break out? According to North Korea’s state-controlled Korea Central News Agency, Pyongyang was provoked by military exercises that it claims included the firing of artillery shells within the North’s territorial waters.

Pyongyang: On Tuesday, the Supreme Command of the Korean People’s Army released the following communiqué:

Beginning at 13:00 on November 23, while staging military maneuvers for a war of aggression and despite repeated warnings, the puppet administration of south Korea perpetrated reckless military provocations. These included the firing of dozens of shells within the territorial waters of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea near the Yeonpyeong Islet in the West Sea. These actions have resulted in an escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula.

[Editor’s note: The North Korean-controlled press does not capitalize the S in South Korea, implying that it is not a nation].

This military provocation is part of the south’s sinister attempt to defend the brigandish "northern limit line," while at the same time, frequently infiltrating the territorial waters of the DPRK with naval warships under the pretext of "intercepting fishing boats."

The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK, standing guard over the inviolable territorial waters of the country, took decisive military steps like reacting with a prompt, powerful, physical strike to the military provocations of the puppet group.

For the army of the DPRK, the use of merciless counterstrikes is the traditional method of reacting to provocateurs.

Should the puppet administration of south Korea dare intrude into the territorial waters of the DPRK, even by 0.001 mm, the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK will without hesitation continue to mercilessly strike back.

The south should bear in mind the solemn warning of the DPRK’s revolutionary armed forces that they don’t make empty talk. The only maritime military demarcation line in Korea’s West Sea is set by the DPRK.
