Hillary Clinton's 'Eve Complex'

"Is Nigeria corrupt? Far from it. This is merely the jungle! Remember, Adam never knew what sin was until Eve served him that forbidden fruit. Hillary isn't Eve, and our politicians won't eat her fruit."

Nigeria - The Independent - Original Article (English)

Secretary Clinton shakes hands with Congo President Joseph Kabila, offering U.S. help in punishing perpetrators of sexual violence and with good governance, Aug. 11. It seems that some Africans haven't taken too kindly to her advice on corruption.

Hillary Clinton has an Eve complex. When she declared that governance in Nigeria has failed and that we should do something about it, she didn't misspeak. She was trying to feed us the fruit of honesty so our "eyes" would be opened. The delectable U.S. secretary of state isn't exactly a saint though. As a matter of fact, she seems to have a little bit of Nigerian blood in her veins.

During her grueling Democratic Party nomination exercise, she told the world that as first lady on a 1996 trip to Bosnia, she ran into sniper fire and had to take cover. Here's how she put it: "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

It was a moving story that sounded like something out of Rambo and was meant to show that she has experience with global affairs and diplomacy. Alas! American news networks led by the CBS proved the story a "lie." Without missing a beat, Hillary retorted that given the evidence by CBS, the incident didn't exactly happen the way she painted it. She claimed that she "misspoke."

Hillary also misspoke when she claimed that after being first lady for eight years, she had more public service experience than Obama. That caused one witty journalist to ask, "If the theater is set for a surgical operation and the brain surgeon isn't around, will they send for his wife?"

But in her Abuja town hall meeting last week, a new and improved (perhaps politically re-invented and re-branded) Hillary didn't misspeak when she said that Nigeria was everything we know it is.

Hmm! Although this sounded like President Obama sending a thief to talk to thieves, it's still a hairdo in the right salon. President Obama could have come himself, but he preferred to go to Ghana and talk to politicians who look like him. So he sent Mrs. Clinton to talk to politicians who resemble her - a bit.

Of course we're being a little sacrilegious comparing Hillary to our politicians. This, I must confess to our shame, is like comparing a low-level forger like Alhaji Salisu Buhari (former speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives who forged his college degrees) to the evil dictator, Sani Abacha. But like any Nigerian policeman will tell you, if you are photographed with armed robbers, you're likely to be arrested as an accomplice until evidence proves otherwise. And Mrs. Clinton, without blinking or flinching, was photographed with some of our politicians. Doesn't that make her an accomplice!

Of course she nearly misspoke when she said governance has failed Nigeria. We still see government every day - in the policemen at checkpoints who take bribes from commercial and private motorists who don't have their licenses; in the sound of sirens blaring by carrying government officials; in our currency that carries the stamp of the Central Bank and in the periodic price increases of commodities. Yes - we have government.

Another point that she nearly misspoke on was "corruption." She lives in the United States where she could check into an old person's home when she gets older. Where the mentally ill are attended to by the government, are cared for under welfare programs and aren't allowed to roam the streets like scavengers. Where the unemployed receive employment benefits and the sick are treated with insurance and where welfare packages take care of people. So there's no need for corruption.

Nigeria is a jungle, and there's no corruption or honesty in the jungle. The law of the survival of the fittest is the first and last law. With the highest infant mortality rates in the world, every Nigerian is a survivor born as a "Buffalo soldier." To understand the story of the Nigerian, Hillary could have learned from the lives of America's Buffalo soldiers. As General Lancaster said: "If you come from dirt, you fight better because you don't want to go back to the dirt. The best fighters in the world are people with nothing to lose." [Unconfirmed quote] He could have been talking about Nigerians.

In America they talk of the human race. Here we talk of the rat race. Oh! Take a trip to Lagos and see whether it wouldn't be better to run in Bosnia under sniper fire. Then try and board a Molue bus with their three cursing conductors, all of whom have nauseating breath, disgusting body odor and stinking rags, and they harangue you to board the bus.

Let Hillary take a trip beneath the bridges and flyovers of Lagos and behold the mass of humanity who fight for bread loaves with angry rodents battling for their independence from the humans who colonized their territories.

Perhaps she would more quickly get the idea if she were to rush to a police station to report that she'd been beaten, robbed of her money and was dying. The policeman would look at her as though she were a cockroach in his stew and ask her to pay for filing her case, the notebooks for the investigation and for the gas required to examine the scene of the crime. There is no need to break Hillary's heart by telling her that night travelers who run into trouble and end up at police stations seeking refuge must pay for sleeping in their buses or be ordered to leave the station.

Is Nigeria corrupt? Far from it. This is merely the jungle! Remember, Adam never knew what sin was until Eve served him that forbidden fruit. Hillary isn't Eve, and our politicians won't eat her fruit.
