CIA
drone attacks: More than ex-President Bush, President Obama
is
using them to get at Taliban in Pakistan, making the locals angrier
about
them than ever.
The Nation,
Pakistan
'America Goes Too
Far'
"It's
unfortunate that despite our soldiers laying down their lives fighting the U.S.-led
'war on terror', the decimation of our nation as a direct result of U.S.
policies and the compromises our leaders, America continues to view Pakistan with
suspicion and distrust."
As American pressure becomes
more overt, aggressive and intrusive, the reaction against it likewise spreads and
becomes more expressive. Except for members of the ruling party [the Pakistan Peoples
Party], most political leaders condemn American accusations regarding the Taliban
in Pakistan - charges that appears to be a preparation for the drone-bombing of
Quetta.
The Pakistan military has stated
categorically that there are no Taliban in Quetta and that the majority of “terrorist”
names on an American watch list, which it repeatedly submits to Pakistan, are
dead. But Washington seems in no mood to adopt a rational mode of behavior.
Now it has been reported that
the Pakistan government has gone one accommodative step further - some would
say too far - by declaring that if the U.S. believes there to be remnants of
the Taliban Shura [leaders] in Quetta, Pakistan would be prepared to accompany American
officials and target these holdouts.
How can the state of Pakistan
make such an offer, when all it should have done was ask for access to American
intelligence? It's unfortunate that despite our soldiers laying down their
lives fighting the U.S.-led “war on terror”, the decimation of our nation as a direct
result of U.S. policies and the compromises our past and present leadership has
made, the U.S. continues to view the state of Pakistan with suspicion and
distrust - particularly the Pakistan military.
