Bahrainis Plead for
Help from Secretary of State Clinton
"Do the Bahraini people have
the right to resort to a foreign party other than you [America] for help in
reclaiming their dignity and freedom? If your support wavers, the price will
be heavy! What do you intend to do, Mrs. Clinton?"
Maryam Alkhawaja, an organizer of Bahrain's pro-democracy protest movement, has become a heroine in Bahrain, after challenging Hillary Clinton to stand by her people in their quest for freedom.
To Mrs. Hillary Clinton,
Secretary of State for the Nation of Freedom:
Did you hear and listen carefully
to what Maryam
Al-Khawaja asked Hillary Clinton?! [video below].
Do you work to guarantee the
freedom of all peoples and protect human dignity as you claim? Or are you a
partner in what is happening in Bahrain, working to continue the repression, subjugation,
torture and detention? I'm sure that those in the administration of your State
Department see the tragic stories of human rights violations and the reckless
entering of homes and houses of worship, on the Internet. But we haven't heard
any objections, protests, or condemnations from you. It's as if the events of
September 11 happened under your auspices!"
Mrs. Clinton, we know that you
have strategic interests in this small, secure island that has never come under
threat or attack. And we know very well that the people of Bahrain are
inconsequential to those interests. The people of Bahrain have no intention of
launching terrorist operations against the U.S. Fifth Fleet or its crewmembers,
as happened with the USS.
Cole at the port of Aden! The Bahraini people are peaceful and do not
solve issues like self-determination with suicide attacks. Neither do they tend to
form militant groups or terrorist networks. The Bahraini people have a culture
that has always been on your side. They were not against you when there were
terrorist attacks against some of your bases in the region. Their spirit of patriotism
and the extreme loyalty of the people to the land of their fathers and forefathers
prevent them from allowing any foreign intervention [reference to Saudi Arabia].
They do not need anyone else's approval to establish their independence, and right
to self-determination!

Mrs. Clinton, the virtuous
Maryam Al-Khawaja's message to you during those few minutes reflected the
tragedy of the many arrests through which the value of being a citizen of
Bahrain was lost. Their freedom limited, and their humanity turned into a pawn to
guarantee your material interests. One cannot compare the value of your
interests to the value of the dignity of our people and brothers, the
patriotism of who can never be disarmed. Today the issue has been put clearly before
you, and if you decide to stand by the political and humanitarian interests of
your administration, then the people of Bahrain ask only your support of their
claims to their freedoms and legitimate demands!
The repressed people of
Bahrain consider Maryam al-Khawaja their ambassador, and her appeal their
message. Now that the message has reached you, do you understand its contents
Mrs. Clinton? Or are you waiting for the people of Bahrain to repeat what Canadian
M.P. Carolyn
Parrish said: “Damn Americans. I hate those bastards!” And last but
not least: Do the Bahraini people have the right to resort to a foreign party
other than you [America] for help in reclaiming their dignity and freedom? If
your support wavers, the price will be heavy! What do you intend to do, Mrs.
Clinton?
