Essence of Muslim Uprisings is 'Anti-U.S. and Anti-Zionist'

Are the Muslim uprisings a result of Arab distaste for the United States and Israel? According to this news item from Iran's state-run Kayhan, Iran's leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has made the unlikely claim that while most of the Muslim uprisings are against the U.S. and Israel - the uprising in Syria is a plot instigated by the 'Global Arrogance.'

Iran's enigmatic supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei: The Iranian theologian claims that the Arab Spring is motivated by a distaste for the U.S. and Israel, rather than a desire to be free of dictatorship. In a speech, he also asserted that Syrians aren't really angry at their own government - which is one of Iran's key allies.

TEHRAN: On Thursday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli feeling was the essence of recent uprisings in countries in the region, and that this is noting like the foreign-based unrest in Syria.

“The essence of the Islamic awakening is an anti-Zionist and anti-U.S. movement,” Ayatollah Khamenei said. “The Islamic awakening is a movement on the path of the prophets, and through vigilance, Muslim nations and the great nation of Iran will prevent the Americans and Zionists from sowing discord and other plots and derailing or hijacking this magnificent movement,” the Leader said.

“The great Islamic awakening in Egypt, Tunisia and other countries reflects the cruel and humiliating balance that the expansionist West and its puppet rulers had imposed on nations in the region over the span of the last 150 years. Now this has been upset, giving rise to a new chapter in region's history,” Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized.

The Leader also reiterated that the Iranian nation and its Islamic establishment would always support all justice-seeking and anti-imperialistic movements.

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that any movement against the U.S. and Zionism, as well as “any nation that rises up against American international dictatorship and its domestic dictators,” will be supported by the Islamic Republic.

Referring to recent developments in Syria, the Leader stressed that the U.S. was attempting to incite trouble and disorder against Damascus by seeking to simulate the uprisings that took place in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya in Syria.

Describing Syria as the frontline state in resistance to the Zionist regime, the Leader said, “But the nature of developments in Syria is different from events in other countries,” noting that the involvement of U.S. and the occupying regime of Israel is evident.

"The logic of the Iranian nation is simple: wherever slogans are chanted in favor of the U.S. and Zionists, a deviance movement is present," the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the appointment of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to his divine mission was the greatest blessing of God.

The current wave of Islamic awakening, the Leader said, is in line with the path of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and he said that Muslim nations would not allow the Americans and Zionists to divert the movement by sowing strife.

The 23-year mission of the Seal of the Prophets left a determining, profound and progressive effect on the history and fate of human beings, the Leader said, adding that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) founded a society based on faith, rationality, jihad and dignity, to which all of human civilization is indebted.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the problems of the Islamic Ummah, both past and present, are due to ingratitude toward this blessing.

The planet's Muslim population, also known as the Ummah: At last

count, 23 percent of the global population, or 1.57 billion people, call

themselves Muslim.

"If Muslim nations were to enhance their faith at heart and in practice, cherish human rationality, pursue jihad in political, military, economics and culture and would more highly value their human dignity, they will certainly attain the position they deserve."

The Leader said that the future of the region is bright and that the arrogant powers are attempting to hide this reality and deny the Islamic element to these developments.

"The Americans, the Zionists and their followers have been using every tool they have to divert this great movement of nations and re-impose the oppressive balance of power of the past to bring to power their puppets. However, once a nation is awakened and stands its ground, it can never again be defeated," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Meanwhile, the Leader urged Muslims to remain vigilant against complex U.S. and Zionist conspiracies.

Ayatollah Khamenei touched on all sorts of plots against the Islamic Revolution, including instigations of sectarian and religious discord, infiltrations, assassinations, and its imposition of war on the Iranian nation. He said that the Global Arrogance will try and do the same to all awakened Muslim nations.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Muslim states can foil these plots by not bickering over trivial matters and refraining from sectarian and religious divisions. He implored Muslim nations to keep the gravity of this historic movement in mind.

Ayatollah Khamenei also touched on the ordeals of the oppressed Bahraini nation, saying that the revolution in Bahrain is similar to those in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen.

The Leader also said he regretted that, "rather than heeding the demands of their nations, some individuals are following the wishes of Islam's enemies."
