Muslim Scholars in Iraq Condemn U.S. Attack on Syria
"American arrogance and
contempt for the lives of ordinary civilians has exceeded Iraq's borders and
moved into its sister Arab countries. Syria was the first but certainly won't
be the last - as long as the terms of the Status of Forces Agreement allows the
Americans to launch whatever military operation they like from Iraqi
territory."

The Association of Muslim
Scholars of Iraq [a Sunnis group ] has issued a
statement saying that, "American arrogance and disregard toward the lives
of ordinary civilians has exceeded the borders of Iraq and moved to its sister
Arab countries. Syria was the first, but it certainly won't be the last as long
as the terms of the agreement [the Status of Forces Agreement] which is soon to
be signed, allows them to undertake whatever military operations it wants from
the Iraqi territory."
The statement, issued by the
group's Secretariat in regard to the aggression of U.S. occupation forces last
night against one of the Syrian villages near the Iraqi border - and which led
to the killing of several people and the wounding of others - condemned U.S.
aggression targeting any neighboring Arab country- particularly attacks that
target Arab brothers launched from Iraqi territory.

The Association again
emphasized the need for the rulers of other Arab countries and peoples to take
heed of the terms of the “Surrender” Agreement, the purpose of which is the
long term domination of Iraq and the region.

Regarding the military
U.S. Aggression on Syrian territory
Blessings
be to Allah and prayers and peace be to his Messenger and friends
In a dangerous precedent that
provides clear and explicit evidence of its eagerness to exploit the rights
offered under the Security Agreement now under discussion, the American
occupation has attacked one of Iraq's neighbors and violated sovereign Syrian
airspace and land to conduct a military operation. Helicopters were used to
ferry in troops to secure a civilian area, in the process killing some
civilians and wounding others in a contemptible attack that has yet to be
explained.
American arrogance and
contempt for the lives of ordinary civilians has exceeded Iraq's borders and
moved into its sister Arab countries. Syria was the first but certainly won't
be the last - as long as the terms of the Status of Forces Agreement allows the
Americans to launch whatever military operation they like from Iraqi territory.
The Association of Muslim
Scholars in Iraq condemns any American attack aimed against any Arab country,
particularly when Iraqi territory is used as staging ground to attack our Arab
brethren. Furthermore, we emphasize again the need for other Arab countries and
peoples to take heed of the terms of the “Surrender” Agreement, the purpose of
which is the long term domination of Iraq and the region.
May Allah have mercy on the
souls of our martyrs, cure our wounded and defend Iraq, its neighbors and its
Nation against all evil.

AL-SADR BLOC CONDEMNS U.S.
ATTACK
The spokesman for the Sadrist bloc in the Council of Representatives, Ahmad Al Masoudi, on Monday condemned the U.S. attack on a site
inside Syrian territory, and called on the United Nations and the Arab League
to condemn this action.

Ahmad Al Masoudi
told lawmakers that the Sadrist group condemned and
deplored the use of Iraqi territory by the U.S. administration to attack a
neighboring country, calling on the U.S. and the Arab League to condemn the
U.S. action. He also said that he fears additional attacks on neighboring
countries should the Government sign the security agreement with Washington,
thereby authorizing America's continued presence in Iraq.
The Sadrist
bloc holds 30 seats of the 275 seats in the Council of Representatives, and its
position of opposition to the security agreement, which is to be signed between
Iraq and the United States, is well known.
