Liu Xiaobo Nobel
Prize 'Farce' Yet Another Western Slap at China
Is this year's
awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Chinese pro-democracy champion Liu Xiaobo
part of a long-running Western conspiracy to obstruct China's 'peaceful rise?'
According to this editorial from China's state-run Global Times, despite the
West's best efforts, China will continue to follow its own council and refuse
to be 'swayed by outside powers.'

Are Western countries
"plotting" against China? In answer to this, few Chinese would give a
definitive answer. But the actions taken by the West have forced Chinese
citizens to speculate about the matter.
Tomorrow will see the
ceremony for this year's Nobel Peace Prize, which has been awarded to Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese
dissident who has devoted himself to subverting the government. Furthermore, at
the invitation of the Nobel committee, several dissidents hostile to the
Chinese government will converge on Oslo from around the globe.
The modern world is much like
a sports arena in which China has passed the first round and qualified for the finals.
As a newcomer, China may be lacking audience support, have a sloppy technique
and not be well prepared, and seem like a stranger in new surroundings. But
China has no choice but to fight on and strictly follow the rules set by
others.
Suddenly, from Westerners in
the pricey seats in the stands, boos and catcalls resound. Worse than that, the
referee blows his whistle against China, amid jeers from cheerleaders and
media, relishing the exposure of China's "scandals." What can the
Chinese team do?
Despite a series of spats and
misunderstandings between China and the West, globalization is forcing China to
adapt and co-exist with the "noble countries" of the West. China must
act discreetly by obeying rules set by the West and trying not to disturb their
interests when seeking to safeguard its own welfare. Meanwhile, these
"noble countries" launch broadsides against China's actions, even
when no wrongdoing has been committed.
The
seat of honor at the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize goes
empty,
as China refuses to allow democracy activist and dissident
Liu
Xiaobo to attend the award ceremony in Oslo. Click photo or

West 'Inhibits Political Diversity' Among Nations
In regard to whether Liu
Xiaobo deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, a majority of Chinese people disagree with
the Nobel Committee. The key problem is that the committee, acting like a
spectator booing China's performance, is overseeing a political farce.
Moreover, there is copious evidence that mainstream political forces in the
West have participated in and dominated this conspiracy. The West is using this
year's Nobel Peace Prize to sound the charge against China's ideology, aiming
to undermine its benign surroundings for future development.
Chinese civilization has long
upheld a tradition of befriending all peoples, and public opinion in Chinese
society favors making friends with the West. In the 1970s and 1980s, the West
showed genuine goodwill toward China. But later on, particularly since the turn
of the century, the West has changed course and begun obstructing China's rise,
which seems to be the last thing they want to see.

The West has shown great
creativity in conspiring against China. With its ideology for the moment
remaining dominant, the West hasn't ceased harassing China with all kinds of
tricks, such as the Nobel Peace Prize.
It may be advisable for China
not to buy into this conspiracy theory, for communication will be much smoother
if the West is given the benefit of the doubt. But China must maintain its
independent stance and ensure that its capacity to function isn't swayed by outside
powers. As long as China keeps its independence of judgment, its security will
be assured even when confronted with a conspiracy.
