Human oocytes are stored for later use: columnist Reinhard

Mueller looks at the creepy side the latest fringe benefit being

offered to egg-bearing employees of Apple and Facebook.

Employee Eggs and the 'Cold' New World Order (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany)

"Have fun, yes, but please – no reproduction! Because then female employees wouldn't be available for a few weeks. Therefore, now these generous brave new world corporations are offering to pay to freeze the egg cells of their employees - so they remain fully-functional as long as possible and give birth as late as possible. … Even if everyone calls it a fad – just a friendly invitation from an employer to please set aside the desire to have children, it makes East Germany's Family Policy seem almost humane. … The delusional sense of feasibility among corporations knows no bounds, and it's no coincidence that the Internet giants are at the forefront."

Germany - Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - Original Article (German)

American Internet giants offer their female employees cash to freeze their egg cells. In this battle for talent they conjure the illusion of being masters of life. By contrast, East Germany's 'Family policy' appears almost humane.

Work is the whole of life. Isn’t that roughly what is written in the Bible? If so, then the saviors of Apple and Facebook take those words literally. One should feel right at home on the job. And there is no question about it: it's better to sit in a pleasantly-lit loft in front of a monitor than slave away underground. No one has to go home anymore, because it's all there: all-inclusive catering, sporting facilities and lounges.

But beware: have fun, yes, but please – no reproduction! Because then female employees wouldn't be available for a few weeks. Therefore, now these generous brave new world corporations are offering to pay to freeze the egg cells of their employees - so they remain fully-functional as long as possible and give birth as late as possible.

It may sound like even more liberty from the land of already unlimited possibilities. Because the employer with this smart, broadminded offer certainly expands the range of opportunity for young women – and it's just an offer. Yet the companies clearly express what they expect. Ultimately, most employees are more or less dependent on them, so a good many will take them up on it for the sake of their careers.

And even if everyone calls it a fad – just a friendly invitation from an employer to please set aside the desire to have children, it makes East Germany's Familienpolitik [Family Policy] seem almost humane. Indeed, East Germany's Socialist Unity Party tried to gain comprehensive control over children and their education at the earliest stage possible, and at the same time to prodded women to have children as young as possible. And all in order to achieve its aim of turning everyone into workers and peasants. But at least they did it the natural way.

The delusional sense of feasibility among corporations knows no bounds, and it's no coincidence that the Internet giants are at the forefront. In the battle for the supposedly best talent, they conjure up the illusion of being the masters of life - as if there were some guarantee of being able to bring children into the world if one waits ten years. Life as a purchase. Why not do the same for the organs of deserving employees in order to build up a stock of spare parts? It's no coincidence that particularly women, and more and more men, refuse to participate in the "free market" rat race. This will be one more instrument for meeting the quota [of government mandated female employees]. In our country, more worker bees are needed. It is growing cold ...
