Merkel Fires Obama;
Takes Hollande to Woodshed (Die Welt, Germany)
“Merkel said that the
recalcitrance [of the U.S. and France] was getting on her nerves, and that
sometimes even her patience runs short. She announced, ‘I have asked [German
President] Gauck for Barack Obama's dismissal from
the Oval Office, and he was happy to comply with my request. … Obama was
clearly taken by surprise and left the conference hall in tears."

Even Francois Hollande didn’t
escape unscathed. With [confident and former cabinet minister] Horst
Seehofer nodding approvingly, Merkel let it be
known that a president whose name is the same as another E.U.
country [Hollande] might not be ideal as leader of
the French. Just imagine if the president of Russia were named "Drafi German." Merkel unmistakably said, "You're
welcome to broadcast that."
With the eurozone hanging by a thread and
NATO talks just days
away, G8
leaders took time out to watch some football. Meant to
relax leaders, the activity
made Chancellor Merkel even grumpier,
after Britain’s Chelsea defeated
Germany's Bayern Muench 4-3 to
take the Champions League title.
Merkel told a spontaneously convened press conference that this
recalcitrance was getting on her nerves, and that sometimes even her patience runs short. She announced, "I have asked [German President] Gauck for
Barack Obama's dismissal from the Oval Office, and he was happy to comply with
my request."
Ousted After Election Debacle
Merkel blames Obama in particular for her losses in the
North Rhein/Westphalia state parliamentary elections,
when the Americans didn't so much as make an appearance. Obama was clearly
taken by surprise and left the conference hall in tears.

As Obama's successor, Merkel has selected [Chief of Staff] Ronald Pofalla,
who will now have the privilege of leading the U.S. out of its debt trap. In
addition, he will be responsible for determining when the United States will be
permitted to join the eurozone.

The G8 Summit at Camp David was eagerly anticipated. Observers
doubted whether Angela Merkel and her rigorous policy of austerity would prevail
with the Americans and French.
That Merkel was accompanied by Horst Seehofer,
who was forever passing her notes, was greeted with surprise. Merkel was in an
unusually aggressive mood, attacking Barack Obama head on when he demanded
increased investment and an end to her austerity plans.
