The Dutch Intelligence Service AIVD [Algemene Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst or General Intelligence and Security Service ] has in recent years been running a top secret operation inside Iran with the aim of infiltrating and sabotaging the weapons industry of the Islamic republic.

The operation, described as being extremely successful, was recently discontinued in connection of plans for an imminent U.S. air strike on Iran. Well-informed sources have told De Telegraaf, some of the targets of the strike are directly linked to the Dutch espionage operation.

NUCLEAR BOMB

Tehran is widely suspected of working on an atomic bomb and refusing to comply with demands by the West to stop enriching uranium.

One of the agents, who under the supervision of the AIVD managed to infiltrate the Iranian weapons industry, was recently recalled because of a decision by the United States, within the next few weeks, to begin air strikes against Iran using unmanned aerial vehicles. Potential targets are allegedly not limited to nuclear facilities, but also include military installations that have been identified with the help of the operation of the AIVD. According to De Telegraaf's sources, over the last few years the Dutch agency has been sharing information gleaned from this operation with the American intelligence agency CIA.

The Dutch operation also managed to sabotage or prevent the delivery of missile parts and launch vehicles. Since 2006, Iran has been hit with U.N. sanctions three times because of its nuclear ambitions. Western intelligence agencies fear that the land of the Ayatollahs will have a nuclear capability at its disposal by 2010. Iranian President Ahmadinejad regularly threatens to wipe Israel off the map.
