We are discussing one of the most existential issues in the world today: state-imposed death, also known as execution. It is an act of the utmost finality, involving people who have been cast aside by society. It is perhaps the starkest example of the Biblical expression "an eye for an eye."
Tonight we are going to delve into the issue with one of the world's foremost advocates of death penalty abolition - Sandrine Ageorges-Skinner. Sandrine is an inspirational person who I have been fortunate to know for many years. Why do I say that? Because Sandrine does something heroic. She saves people's lives.
Over and over and over again, she has gone to battle on behalf of those who have been entirely written off, and no matter what you think of the justness of execution in the abstract, these people are regularly found to have been innocent, often after spending many years behind bars and having been repeatedly a hair's breadth from the state executioner.
