ALABINO: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin praised the role played by American nuclear scientists in developing the nuclear bomb in the USSR and eliminating the U.S. monopoly on the most destructive weapon in human history.

At a meeting with commanders of Army brigades and divisions, the head of government began by speaking of the need to preserve the global strategic balance, using as an example the participants of "Manhattan Project," who even in the 1940s, Putin asserted, understood and recognized the need to cooperate with the Soviet Union.

“You know, back at that time, when the States already had nuclear weapons and the Soviet Union was just building them, a significant portion of the information we received came to us through Soviet foreign intelligence channels. In fact, they carried the information away not on microfilm, but literally in suitcases. Suitcases!” said the prime minister.

Continuing his excursion into history, he recalled an episode in which Soviet scientists confronted serious problems with their calculations, so they appealed to Danish nuclear scientist Niels Bohr, who was working for the Americans, and who helped them.

“When our scientists couldn't calculate, they directly approached him at one of the international conferences for young, little-known specialists. They told him bluntly: “You know, we have gone over our calculations again and again and nothing seems to work.” So he calculated for them - he helped them,” Putin said.
